Things are going creepy this Halloween as clown ban was set in Kemper County, Mississippi at least until Halloween is over. This means that nobody in Kemper can dress up like a clown in public. Even having a clown makeup on your face is temporarily illegal. Those who violate this rule until November 1, 2016, will have to pay a $150 fine.
Those who did not hear about the infamous clown attacks might be surprised at this clown ban in Mississippi. Well, everything started in South Carolina back in August of this year. People were reporting about clowns that appeared in the woods near Greenville. Later on, another clown chased a teen out of a New York subway. Ohio authorities closed the schools due to clown attacks. Similar odd clown attacks happened in other states like Florida, California, Colorado, and Texas too. According to Time, at the beginning of October, lots of students in Pennsylvania State University went outside to carry out a clown hunt. Till this day, schools and universities are in a constant terror due to these unexpected clown visits.
Even press secretary Josh Earnest noted that the issue requires serious law enforcement. Though the press secretary was not aware whether the president knew about the clown attack problem or not.
This whole hysteria around the clown issue might come from the simple truth that a person with a mask CAN be scary. In fact, a mask hides your face, your feelings, and your intentions too. That’s why people start guessing who might be beneath that mask/makeup. Not counting the odd behavior of the clowns. Thus, it’s normal for people to sometimes get frightened because of it.
Despite the clown ban in one of the Mississippi’s counties, clown attacks have not caused any serious injuries or fatalities. These people might just be some pranksters who have started celebrating Halloween a few months earlier.
Another important thing to note here is that the real clowns i.e. the people with this profession might be in danger now. The society has started to view people in masks as some kind of outsiders or enemies. They seem like bandits who usually frighten children or make odd noises in the woods.
All people can do now is to wait and see what happens after November 1. And, of course, it’s important to turn to a lawyer if you think someone has been bullying or harassing you in some way.
